Herd behavior

(with notes)
Herd behavior describes how individuals in a group can act together without planned direction. The term pertains to the behavior of animals in herds, flocks and schools, and to human conduct during activities such as stock market bubbles and crashes, street demonstrations, sporting events, religious gatherings, episodes of mob violence and everyday decision-making, judgment and opinion-forming.

Escape panic characteristics
  • Individuals attempt to move faster than normal. (Like at the grocery store when they get out of work)
  • Interactions between individuals become physical.
  • Exits become arched and clogged. (Bathrooms do, also, because these are mistaken as exits then they panic so much they poop)
  • Escape is slowed by fallen individuals serving as obstacles.(Swerve around the slow car, escape is our last option!)
  • Individuals display a tendency towards mass or copied behavior. (Don't attract attention! This one requires concentration)
  • Alternative or less used exits are overlooked.[3]

  1. Interesting. Yes, people usually only follow things done by other people.
